Fishing Reports

Good night on the river tonight following a slow day yesterday. Bite started about 4pm and anglers were still catching walleye after we quit for the night one short of two limits. Our biggest was just shy of 19.5" and smallest was about 16 inches. I limited in only an hour and a half and called Art to pick me up and he caught 3 more.

White was once again a hot color and the glow red also hit well. Tonight we were hair more shallow at about 20 ft.

Today the temp got above zero and you could definately feel the difference. Much better than the last couple days.

Yep, I'm still excited today!
We're coming up on our 2 year anniversary next month and although I understood fishing to be fun I didn't understand what made this place more special than any other. Now I know. And now I'm spoiled!
After I came in last night a couple anglers limited out. (I knew I should of stayed! Oh well, I'll be back out soon enough!)
Today the bottom fell out and the wind chill was brutal! Anglers that braved the elements today caught walleye at the regular bites times again today, morning and evening.
Right now the wind chill factor makes it feel like 41 below, Brrr! The weekend promises to be warmer though.
Thanks for all the emails of congrats today! I've been fishing for that one for a couple years now! I must have measured it 8 times only because I couldn't believe it! I want to send a special thanks to my son Ryan who was right with me and helped me pull it through the hole. Thanks kiddo! 30 inches!!!!

I only had to wait one night!!!! Here's my one for the wall! 30 inches 9.8 lbs! I pulled it up at 4:30 pm and called it a night at 4:31 pm. I was so excited I couldn't concentrate any longer! I'm sure their still biting but I was good.

22 ft, jig was same as last night, white with red eye.

My heart is still going 100 miles an hour so that's the update for today!

Can you say "one for the wall?" Neither can I. This beauty almost measured 28 inches tonight! She was sooo close I had a place picked out and everything! But I let her go to continue waiting for my big one, however I do have a new personal biggest!
Tonight was much better, obviously. Art had the best night limiting out before 5pm. They started biting around 3:30pm today. I caught the big one just after 5pm.
We were at a deeper depth tonight, about 22ft. Our hot color has been white, especially ones with a red eye to be specific. And the current has relaxed enough now that 3/8 oz jigs are fine.

Well it's still a little slow but we haven't been getting skunked! Walleye have been about 16-17 inches lately and sturgeon have been biting after dark. They've been giving the anglers a run for their money to retrieve their jig before releasing them. Course it's also a good reason to update your line after fighting one of those for a half hour!

Weather finally got back to typical winter temps which made a beautiful day today. We moved fish houses and enjoyed the outdoors.

We've finally got enough ice we can drive out to the houses, about 18-20 inches now.

It's been so cold up here I thought I head south and visit family for a few days. Turns out they aren't south enough to get away from the cold!

Today was our first day with temps above zero for days now! Art stuck around to brave the elements with some other anglers and the weather made the fishing a little quiet. It seemed to be hit or miss or miss, miss. Night before last was tough, last night one group did well with even some 19.5+. Others didn't. Tonight haven't heard from others, but it wasn't my night that's for sure! (Course I'll try again tomorrow)

Last weekend was a little too cold so we're moving around houses this weekend. By the looks of it today many others are doing the same.

Even after the extreme cold weather there are still some open spots at Indus and Manitou Rapids. Ice does continue east to a little past Loman but it's not even close to as thick as last year!

Brian and his dad did well the other evening with these great catches! Thanks for the photos!

The Jentink group also sent us some great photos that are over on the Brag Board!

I finally caught my own 25.5 inch walleye, but no camera! Got it on my phone as my screen saver though!

This week was up and down. Of course alot like the weather. Cold then warmer and now it's expected to plummet for the weekend.

We'll be moving ice houses this weekend, maybe try some different depths. We're currently at 18-20 ft. Ice depth hasn't changed much. Still about a foot. The subzero temps may thicken it some. Best colors remain pink glow or white glow. 1/2 oz is the jig size we use to reach bottom through the current.

Bruce A caught and released this beautiful 26.5 inch walleye tonight! Nice catch!

Other anglers caught limits with sizes ranging between 17-19 inches tonight.

Groups have been hit and miss some groups doing very well and bite being slower for others.

Depths remain in the 18-20 foot range and bites seems to be right off the bottom.

A little quieter tonight but we didn't get skunked, which is always a good thing!

The bite remained soft tonight. We're fishing at about 18-20 feet and temps are falling to more around normal keeping the ice thickness around 12 inches. Snow cover is also keeping the ice from going much deeper.

I got all the bugs worked out (thank goodness)!

Last night Arik and Tammi P brought in a couple large walleyes, a 22 and 24inch!

We had quite a few keepers and threw back some little ones last night. Tonight wasn't as good, I missed more than I caught!

I've got some more photos but am having some technicals difficulties. I'll post them just as soon as I can.

In the meantime, anglers have been catching walleye in the usual time slots of dusk and dawn. However don't be too quick to leave because they have been biting later. Anglers did well Saturday. Sunday morning was slow but evening was good. Most sizes between 17-19 inches and we also had some 21-22's over the weekend.

Ice thickness is still about a foot despite the beautiful warm temps. We'll be cooling off again this weekend.

There's open water up by Loman and open spots here and there around Indus. Last year the extremely thick us slowed down the open water, this year looks better already for prespawn.

Pictures will be posted again soon!

So who's is it? I tended to my other line and this one struck my main line at the same time so Nick reeled it up and a 25 inch walleye was on it! Ok, I'll just wait for a bigger one!

Bite was good and we hit closer to bottom again. 1/2 oz jigs are fine and current seems to be slowing so we can get away with a little lighter too. The best color tonight was pink and this one was on the pink glow again.

Ice on the river is almost a foot and the weekend is supposed to be beautiful!

Our Illinois group did very well this week on the river and they also had a 25 incher in their mix. Lots of 25's this week!

Ryan caught and released a 25" walleye tonight, he was pretty excited. He caught it on a pink glow jig suspended about a foot off the bottom. I caught my limit tonight but my big one is still waiting to show itself.
Our anglers here are catching limits everyday. Morning and evening. Today was bitter cold, but tomorrow looks better and the weekend sound better yet!
