Fishing Reports

Marv and Emil were out over the weekend when Marv caught and released this beautiful 25 inch walleye. Nice catch!

They said the weekend was harder than the weekend before but were able to catch and release quite a few.

Today was WINDY! Big white caps on the river today. We had some anglers at Birchdale and others at Frontier. They weren't sure if it would be worth it but once they got out they said they did do well! We also had periods of snow showers today! The winds are expected to die down and the weekend actually looks pretty good for opener.

We hope everyone had a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!

Today was a great day, Mike caught and released an 8 lb walleye up by Birchdale. Their group as well as others boated many walleye today. A much better day than yesterday. Another group in camp reported a 30 inch caught today as well.

Weather today was gorgeous and everyone was loving it, because tomorrow we'll be back to fall again.

Nick has been itchin for deer season to begin and will be out bright and early Saturday morning. He's just hoping he sees as many deer on opener as we've seen just along the roads the last couple weeks! Speaking of Nick, he turned 17 on the 29th! Happy Birthday kiddo!

The Downhour group had a good day yesterday. Weather is finally cooperating and the river is going down. Their best luck was on crank-baits.

Current is still an issue but most anglers are working around that.

Today was beautiful and guys are still coming in. Early morning and evening have been the best bite.

Today is a brisk day. Fall is definitely in the air.

Fishing has been on and off. We did hear that they shut the damn gates at the Falls. And we haven't had rain for a few days now so the Forks should be done sending debris our way. Reports are that it has been looking better. Current is still strong but the levels are still coming down. Water temp has fallen to around 44 degrees this week too.

Different groups have had different luck. Some groups will do well one day while others struggle and the next day will be opposite. Yesterday we heard it was tough, however we have had another group catch and release a 27 inch walleye and a couple others in the 20+ size, they also had keepers in the 17-19 inch range.

Our longtime guest, Cindy, would like to dedicate her 25 inch walleye to some dear people their family lost over the past year.
Tommy
Aunt Verle
&
"Skinny"
She would also like to dedicate it to Nana, who told her to catch "a big one" on her trip this year.
The river is clearing and the water is slowly going down. Limits were caught yesterday and although today was a little harder some great catches will be posted on the Brag Board from today.

Fishing was much better toaday! Groups reporting getting limits again.

John C had a fabulous 27.5" this evening caught and released near Silver Creek. Great catch John!

Anglers also reported the water level seems to be going down again although current was swift.

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Today the weather was beautiful but the fishing was quite. Anglers only pulled in a few per group today. The sizes ranged from 17-19 inches once again. The biggest only just over 20 inches.

The spots where they were able to pull in a couple were the mouths of the bays. (Clementson and Baudette)

Tomorrow another beautiful day is expected. The water went down some in the bay this afternoon, but is still high.

Mike sent us some fantastic pictures from his trip up here over the weekend! He reports having his best luck right down the middle of the river and best colors were pink/white and rose red! Thanks for the pics and update Mike!

We had more rain last night for a bit, yuck. Today however is making up for it with sun shine and warmer temps! Tomorrow more of the same with it cooling just a bit for the weekend, as long as we can dry out a bit we'll be happy.

Current is still strong and half the battle. The walleye are still biting however the river is making us work for them! Water temp is still hovering around 49 degrees and water level is still very high.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

The Constantine group have been doing well. They've had good size keepers and a couple 20+.

Water levels are HIGH and the most challenge for most anglers right now is the current still. Most catches have been where the current is broken up still, however anglers did say they have noticed it is slowing down some.

Water temp is about 49 degrees and other than some quick passing showers today we have had some nice weather finally. The weekend is expected to be very nice!

We had a question about how they were doing at Frontier, well Byron and Emil have the answer. Very well! They had a trip total of catching and releasing just over 200 walleye near Frontier.
Fishing in this strong current takes some creative measures for sure. Emil and Byron's trick was to sit where it was 8ft and cast to a 19ft hole and pull the jig back out of the hole to them. Many also are finding places where the current has broken up to slow it down. Hopefully the river will begin to slow on it's own now that the rain has let up.
More reports on hot colors were pink, orange or surecolor (neon yellow)

There wasn't enough hooks on our sign to show off what we caught today! We had five in our group and we all caught our limit. We went up by Birchdale just below the rapids. We found a spot where the current was blocked a bit and sat behind it in a slower current at about 9ft and did well. Blue was our hot color for the day and did well till dark. I switched to a white glow later in the day and did fine with that color too, but blue did the best.

The water was murky but not as bad as we expected after all the rain we had. There were many boats out today because nobody could resist the beautiful day!

We took a walk down to the bay late tonight to check the shiners and the bay looked alot dirtier than earlier today. We didn't have much driftwood lately but tonight we did have to dislodge some from the dock. We're not sure how it's going to be tomorrow but we will be watching.

Mindy J caught herself a 30 inch walleye today! Way to Go!

Even with all the rain anglers were bringing in the walleye today. They said the river is high and murky but not muddy.

Mindy caught her walleye up by Birchdale and today we heard that Birchdale is where the big ones have been from quite a few anglers.

Current is strong and some anglers have switched up to 1 oz jigs to hit bottom. Shallower is still the best and most colors are hitting. Hopefully we'll be some seeing some sun soon, not that we'd recognize it!

Happy Birthday to Ryan who turned 15 today!

Yesterday it was beautiful, today was much like the rest of the state. Rain.

Water levels are up from rain and water let out from the damn this week. The river had gotten dirty after rain last week but anglers were still catching many walleye. They stuck to the shallows in slower current and did fine. All week the river was getting better and better but this new batch of rain could change things. Anglers today were still catching walleye in the elements.

The rain is expected to move out from this area Friday which is fine by us! We're as sick of it as everyone else in Minnesota is right now I'm sure!

Tuesday, October 16, 2007

The Mackerthey party had a fantastic evening despite a drizzly day. Paul reeled in a 28 and a 29 inch walleye back to back within a half hour of each other! Way to go!
Current water temp is at 48 degrees and the current is slowing but some anglers are still using 3/4oz. Water is still clearing. Bite is still shallow and today the best time to be out was afternoon until right before dark.

Monday, October 15, 2007

The Rosenau father/daughter team (left) brought in their share of walleye today. All between 17-19 inches!
The Kuehne party reported also having a good day, even having to toss back a 27 incher!

Sunday, October 14, 2007

The Mackethey group caught and released a 29 inch walleye today!
Nice catch!

Limits are being caught up and down the river despite the river getting a little dirty from the bad weather last week. It seems to be washing through just fine though.

Shallower is still working best and colors vary. Jay (2nd photo) was using blue/silver.

Deja vue! Doug did it one more time with a 27 inch this time! His brother had most fish including this 23". A nice ending to an otherwise rough week. Good job guys!

Art and Lee were out yesterday morning and did rather well boating walleye between 17-19 inches. They stayed shallow, about 10ft was all and were using gold. White glow has been working for others also.

Wednesday, October 10, 2007

Things turned around this evening for the Vanderhoef party!

Doug caught and released a 28" and a 28.5" within a half hour of each other tonight. The 28" weighed 10.2lbs which was heavier than the 28.5" that weighed in at 9lbs.

The group said all their catches were at no deeper than 13 ft and no shallower than 9ft. They also had some other pics that will be on the brag board including a couple limits and some 22 inchers.

Weather has been extremely hard on the anglers with high winds and lots of rain. The temps have been cold as well with highs only in the high 30's and lows below freezing.

Things are beginning to look up today. We saw the sun and temps were warmer. Anglers finally got out on the water again today. Some went to the Lake of the Woods but didn't do very well, water was still rough and stirred up. The anglers on the river had mixed luck, some limited out and some couldn't get a bite.

Walleye sizes have been hovering around 18-22". Water temp was 51 degrees today and levels came up with the recent rain.

The rest of the week we should see temps in the upper 40's, lower 50's and the rain is supposed to give us a break!

Sunday, October 07, 2007

Not bad! Pretty good catch last night! Today, like I said, was a little tougher. Anglers had to go to heavier jigs due to the current picking up quite a bit over night. 3/4 oz just to get to bottom. Some anglers go shallower when the current picks up.

Nick was out grouse hunting this morning and did get the one he seen. It's his favorite time of year between the small game hunting, deer season and walleye fishing.

We had quite a front go through dumping quite a bit of rain last night. The fishing has quieted a bit today, but it won't last long I'm sure, the water temp took a dive to around 47 degrees recently and that's what we're looking for.

Thursday, October 04, 2007

Emil did some good fishing the last couple days catching 30 walleye one day and 25 the next!

Anglers have been doing very well this week. Water temp is still around 57 degrees so it's still a little warm for the big walleye, but they have made a couple appearances.

The last two night the shiners were THICK! Walking down to the bay it sounded like running water trickling.

It was a beautiful day out on the river yesterday. And the Theis's got an extra treat while fishing up by Birchdale. A young bear needed to cross the river near their fishing hole!

The fishing has been good with anglers boating many walleye each day. The next couple days are expected to be very nice with highs above normal!
