Fishing Reports

This great photo was sent to us by the Swearingen group along other great photos of their trip here during the fall.

A cold snap that came through this week and continues to give us high in the single digits has slowed the bite a bit. Aside from the 26"walleye pulled out during the morning bite on Monday they've been making us work for them. Usually between 14and 16 inches.

February marks our 1 year anniversary since we moved here and to celebrate we will be offering a package deal on our cabins and fish houses! Call or email for more details!

Congradulations Bears!

The ice conditions nor the weather could have been better for Hockey Day Minnesota yesterday. Our own Lake of the Woods Bears took on the St Paul Johnson Governors yesterday on Baudette Bay and won with a score of 5 to 3! Go Bears!
On other ice it's been interesting to say the least. Last night one house got 1 walleye, another limited out and another had caught and released 2 over 20 inches right about the time I was going in. Tonight was the same story. Some houses limited while the others struggled. All houses are in the same general area fishing between 17 and 20ft. We were in 19ft while the anglers with the large ones last night were shallower. My niece and I were out last night and she caught 1 and I got 3 all in a very short amount of time, then tonight same house I got one 20.5" and that was it, but a limit was taken in the very next house.

I brought my sister ice fishing for her 1st time tonight and she out fished me with this 20.25 walleye! As she smiled for her picture in all her excitement of the biggest fish she ever caught she asked me "What is it?"

It was a another nice day today. Not too cold, got a dusting of snow this morning and a little time to go fishing. Art and I went out this evening and caught 5, threw back one. The bite was soft at times so we missed a few. Got more bites by only jigging occasionally not continuous.

We finally seen temps in the 20's today, it actually felt warm! With this being our 1st winter open the cold snap brought unforeseen difficulties with being open year round. We've been making adjustments to remedy this so we've been too busy to fish, dang it! But things are looking better so I'll be out again soon.

We were afraid the cold snap would shut down the fishing completely for a spell, but it didn't. Anglers were still able to catch walleye. Haven't seen too many sauger, only a few. Talked to a neighbor who only got one the other night, but he said the guys in the house next to him limited out. One group of anglers did alright with just regular round jigs, jiggin 4-6inches of the bottom.

The fish were biting even over a very chilly weekend. A couple here, a couple there. A few were thrown back due to slot size but their always fun to catch. Nick and I went out tonight for awhile, this was one of mine. One guest had a pretty nice one get away, even broke his rod as a parting gift!

With a smile on his face Neal shows us even in the most extreme weather you can catch fish!

Last report I said Brr. Now it's BRRRRRR! Yesterday the winds picked up and put us in an advisory until noon today. It's 11:30am and still 13 below zero. In the cold and the wind Neal ended up with 3 small walleye and 1 sauger. The winds are expected to die down now and the sun is shining. Temps should level out in the single digits now so I'll let you know how the bite is over the weekend for the anglers with us. Rumor has it Birchdale has been a good spot lately too. Couple anglers reported getting a couple 10pounders up there last week.

Brrr, did the temp drop! It was a cold one today and the wind gusts seemed to keep it colder than that. The cold weather is expected to hang around a few days too. The bite was quiet today with only a few catches and one 25 incher to try and keep it intersting for one group.

After waking up to a fresh snow fall yesterday the boys didn't waste any time!

We also seen many snowmobilers in the area taking advantage of the new snow as well.

Evening bite put a smile on this anglers face last night when he caught and released this 26 inch walleye.

We're getting a change in the weather again. Today it's snowing and blowing, next it's supposed to get cold. We moved are ice houses the other day and drilled fresh holes, the ice thickness is about a foot.

Anglers are also doing well catching northern on tipups lately and they bite all day.

A slow bite today didn't stop Nick and Zack they got what they came for! Even the sleet that came down for the evening bite didn't bother them. Nick's walleye measured 25". Now him and I are tied for the largest walleye we've caught. Even with the slow bite nobody was getting skunked by the looks of it.

With the closeness in size which was thrown back?
The fishing has seemed to make a comeback the last few days. Many anglers are catching they're limits again and we're seeing quite a few 20+ inch walleyes like the 21" shown here. Weather has been warm the last 2 days but is expected to drop again soon. Up until yesterday pink and gold were hot colors. Yesterday anglers did better on fluorescent yellow and glow in the dark jigs.

Happy New Year Dan! Looks like the fishing might be turning around again. Dan caught and released this 27 inch walleye during the morning bite. After a few slow days I finally got my limit last evening and this morning 3 anglers from Dan's group got their limit as well. In the mix a couple had to be thrown back due to being 21-22 inches.

Happy New Year!

We woke up to a beautiful day today, looks like the unstable forecast is about to stabilize. This will hopefully wake up the bite, last night the Anderson party brought in 5 and Nick had a couple this morning but it is quieter than it had been. 1/4oz jiggin spoons have been working pretty good. Pink, orange or gold are hot colors.
