Fishing Reports

This picture was taken out on the river by an angler this week. Most of us are sure to be out at this time of day and see a sight like this since most evenings the bite is very good. Today the river didn't look this peaceful, it was a windy one. Made for harder fishing today with the rough water, but they were still biting. The temperature of the water is at 70 degrees now. Water level had rose for a short time at the beginning of August but has remained steady at the same lower level the rest of the month. Rain is threatening tonight but for the most part Labor Day weekend is expected to stay dry. Have a great weekend!

Howard caught this beautiful walleye today! Measured in at just over 21". His group have been doing very well catching everything from sturgeon to crappies. We're seeing heavier and heavier stringers lately! A couple will be posted on the brag board so make sure to check it out! We had a large sturgeon jump out of the water and hit the front our boat last night! We were watching them jump all evening and talked about something like that happening but didn't expect it to actually happen! We also seen a black bear on the Canadian border. A couple other anglers spotted 2 black bears the other morning. October is coming fast and we have 2 openings the first week and 1 the second week. If your interested give us a call soon, they'll fill fast!

Fishing has been really good lately. Denny caught this 57" sturgeon today on a rapula. We had another sturgeon pulled in just as it got dark tonight. He got his sturgeon on a jig with a crawler. That photo will be on the brag board. I also caught my first sturgeon the other night on the same. My sturgeon was a 42". Eric also got his limit of walleye tonight. Another group caught 3 northern between 26-30" and 3 smallies all about 16 inches long. One will be posted on the brag board as well. The water is cooling down slowly and levels remain low. The weather however has been pleasantly cooler. Have a great weekend!

Paul W. caught this 33" northern right in the bay yesterday. Paul's group have been doing some really good fishing this weekend. They've been catching large northern, rock bass in large numbers and the a few walleye that are also starting to get larger in size as well.

Our area has been seeing some much needed rain the last couple of days. Our fire danger level has moved from "very high" back to "moderate". However the river is still lower than average, but on the bright side our lawn is turning green again and we might be able to mow for the first time in about 2 months! Day fishing has been alright, but evening fishing has been great! They really start biting just as the sun goes down. A couple anglers, including us, have had times where 3 people were pulling in a fish at the same time. Walleyes are usually still slot size. We have been seeing larger northern and their biting hard. We've also seen an increase in the smallies biting again.

There hasn't been much change in the last week. Last Saturday night we had wind and rain, and also lost power for a couple hours, but was lucky. Warroad however did experience a tornado that night. I received emails checking on our area who did make it through ok. Other than that everything is about the same. Water temp is still 73 degrees, water is still low. Despite that fish are still being caught. Most are slot limit, no great numbers, but we all know that will change soon! Just a reminder, sturgeon season will be closing September 3oth so don't miss out on catching one! When your out on the river in the evening you can hear and see them jump clear out of the water still!

We received some much needed rain today. We also enjoyed the cooler temps this week. The boys here tonight were jigging with both minnows and crawlers and caught 3 walleye, 1 sauger and a bass. They stuck to the deeper channels. Water temperature has cooled a bit sitting at 73 degrees tonight. Have a great weekend!
