Doug caught his limit the other night with 4 walleye and 2 sauger. Nick also caught 2 walleye. They were fishing about 18' deep when they caught these on jigs and crawlers. Water temp on the river yesterday was 80 degrees.

Despite the hot weather and low water level the fish are still biting. Here' s Ryan Adams with a 24" walleye he caught on the Lake of the Woods. His group pulled in their limit that day. The Shaw party were fishing sturgeon last weekend and we got some great photos on the brag board!

Jiggin with crawlers at between 17'and 20ft', Nick and Doug had a good evening catching 3 walleye, 1 sauger and a 29"northern. River temp is still in the 70's. Weather is much more pleasant up here this week with temps in the low 80's. Another group of anglers went out with Gonzo's guide service on the river one day and the lake the next. They did well both days catching their limit on the Lake of the Woods and pulling out a 24" walleye. Down-riggers were used out on the lake. USGS has the gage height at Manitou Rapids at 2.25ft right now with very little rain in the forcast. Canadian DNR has moved their fire danger level up to "extreme" due to the lack of rain and I'm sure we're not far behind.

Somebody got rain but it wasn't us! I took this picture from the deck last night facing International Falls. It was so neat I wanted to share it. Like most of the state we're HOT this weekend! Dry conditions have lowered the water level in the river yet again and has the fire danger level posted from the DNR at "VERY HIGH". Water temp is still warm in the mid 70's. Anglers we talked to heard the walleye were biting on crawlers but they had better luck catching 4 sturgeon with the crawlers. They switched to minnows in about 15' and started catching some walleye, most between 17"and 19". Most anglers here have been fishing in the evening, going out at about 8:30pm when it's cooler.

Cooler temps have been here the last couple days and we are enjoying them before the 90's come back this week. Water temps in the river have been in the mid 70's. The water level has remained low. We've noticed anglers bringing out the downriggers on the river this week, the Lake of the Woods is said to seen alot of the same. Anglers on the Lake say fishing is picking up there. Anglers on the river have been pulling out walleyes in the slot size and northern and smallies are not hard to find. Lately you don't have to be on the water long to see sturgeon jump clear out of the water, which is really an awesome sight.

While grandpa was working on his boat at the dock this morning Mikey took advantage of the wait and caught himself this northern. Weather couldn't be nicer, getting warmer through this week. Water level has risen slightly but still low. Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
