We’re all dug out from the Holiday snow! The walleye really turned right before the storm. Anglers were catching good numbers of walleye. Sizes 16-19 inches. Same sizes continue to be caught in the evening hours since. Same size range only bigger numbers have been reported on the Lake.
The snow put about an inch of slush on the river, however there is plenty of ice in front of us! Houses are currently at depths ranging from 17-20 feet on the river.

Anglers are now driving out to their ice houses on the river. Fishing remains best in the evening. We do have houses available and they are not far from our cabins!
Merry Christmas

Ice on the river ranges from 6-8 inches on the river and 11-13 inches on the bay. Anglers have been out in the evening catching a few keepers ranging from 16-18 inches.

First house out on 12/16/09. Two walleyes right off the bat around 3:30. 17’ of water, 7” of ice. I also checked with the group at Silver Creek and they only had a couple of walleyes for 7 people.

Ok, ice thickness on the river right now is varying between 3-4 inches. In the bay is 5-8 inches. And we got word that Lake of the Woods varies between 6-11 inches depending on location.
Anglers are still fishing near the shorelines because of thickness so good walleye spots are still just out of reach for now. Weather remains cold so we will be checking depths periodically. For now use caution on the river

We’re finally seeing the portable fish houses creep out from the shorelines
We’ll check ice thickness shortly and post them. Weather is a tad warmer today, we’re actually just above zero! We’ll also see how anglers did as they come back in.

It’s sure been chilly this week! We trying to hit zero degrees today. Which means we’re building ice! We didn’t appreciate the snow covering the but hopefully as cold as it’s been it won’t matter! We haven’t risked venturing on the the river ice yet, there are still some open areas yet, but it shouldn’t be much longer. The bay, of course, is farther along as far as ice depth. As soon as it’s safe enough we’ll be out there! The icehouses are ready and waiting!

We finally woke up to a sheet of ice across the river yesterday morning
the cold temps expected this week will help continue to build the ice. The bay is sporting between 3 and 4 inches of ice at this time. Bring on the ice fishing…..

Dec 2, 2009
Cold weather has moved in to help us build ice for the upcoming ice fishing season
We also got a few inches of snow! There’s no getting out of the bay any longer with a boat, however the river remains open. With the expected temps we should be seeing ice on the river soon though.
In the meantime there were anglers out in boats still the other day and did get a couple walleye. A 5 lb was their biggest and a few keepers.

We hope all had a Happy Thanksgiving! Our son graduated his Army Infantry training at Ft Benning GA last week and got to come home for Thanksgiving
The river remains open and a skim of ice remains in the bay. Anglers are still out in boats and it’s almost December. Temps are getting cooler but still above average for this time of year.
Walleye fishing has been a bit quiet. Catches have been either 20+ size or real small, for the most part, with the keeper size being fewer.
