The bite continued to get slower this week so there wasn't much to report. We braved the bitter cold and gave it our best anyway but it was apparently even too cold for the fish.
Yesterday we finally got a break in the weather with some warmer temps and last night the bite showed it. Anglers finally seen some action again sticking to depths about 16-18 ft. This morning showed some action again as well. With better weather we should see better fishing again.
Ice thickness remains about 22 inches. Last year between the low water, limited snow fall, and slow current the ice got very hard and very strong. This year has been more typical, good ice with a blanket of snow to insulate it. Weak spots have remained through the winter to the east, which should help it break easier this year and water levels are higher than last year with a steady, faster current as well.
March 1st is only a week away now and it won't be much longer and I'll be making my daily road trips up the river! Bring on spring! One more reminder, with March 1st comes a smaller walleye slot size; two under 19.5".
Have a great day!
